Greenpeace UK are upset that Supermarket Waitrose has jumped into bed with an oil giant, Shell, raising serious questions about responsibility. Waitrose has become well known for its ethics and sustainability, but has it smeared thick, greasy oil over its reputation since partnering with the profiteers? Shell now sells Waitrose goods at selected Shell sites, while 13 stations operate next to Waitrose stores.
Mega-power Shell are exploiting the effects of global warming by extracting oil which lies beneath the melting Arctic. Waitrose can easily mop up the olive oil spill in Aisle 3, but Shell are not so diligent, “there’s no sugar coating it, there will be spills” says Greenpeace UK, Vice President, and they’re not likely to do anything about it, despite the spillages being seriously detrimental to the fragile arctic environment.
Greenpeace UK are championing their #DumpShell campaign, almost 26,000 have emailed Waitrose to end their friendship; tell Waitrose to dump Shell at www.greenpeace.org.uk/waitrose
